Day 5 — Refreshed While Refreshing Others
Good morning, and welcome to today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.
Our scripture today comes from Proverbs chapter 11, verse 25.
“The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”
When life becomes difficult, our natural instinct is often to hold tightly to everything we have.
We hold tightly to our resources.
We hold tightly to our time.
We hold tightly to our energy.
And sometimes, if we are not careful, we even hold tightly to our hearts.
Financial pressure, emotional exhaustion, and long seasons of uncertainty can create a mindset of survival.
We begin to focus entirely on what is missing.
We count what we lack.
We worry about what might happen tomorrow.
And fear quietly whispers that we cannot afford to give anything away.
But God’s kingdom operates differently than the world.
The world says, “Protect yourself first.”
God says, “Trust Me.”
The world says, “Hold on tighter.”
God says, “Keep your heart open.”
When we hear the word generosity, we often think only about money.
But generosity is much bigger than that.
Sometimes generosity is a kind word spoken to someone who is discouraged.
Sometimes it is a phone call to a lonely friend.
Sometimes it is a listening ear, a helping hand, a prayer, or a simple act of compassion.
There are seasons when you may not have much to give financially, but you can still be rich in kindness, encouragement, and love.
And God sees every one of those offerings.
He sees the encouraging message you send when your own heart is hurting.
He sees the prayer you offer for someone else while carrying your own burdens.
He sees the compassion you show when it would be easier to withdraw into yourself.
Nothing escapes His notice.
The scripture gives us a beautiful promise.
“He that watereth shall be watered also himself.”
In other words, when you become a source of encouragement to others, God has a way of refreshing your own soul.
This does not mean every problem instantly disappears.
But it does mean that as His love flows through you, His grace flows back into you.
There is something powerful that happens when we stop focusing entirely on our own struggles and allow God to use us to bless someone else.
Our perspective begins to change.
Our hearts begin to soften.
And we discover that even in difficult seasons, God can still work through us.
You may feel empty today.
You may feel weary.
You may feel as though you have very little left to give.
But remember this:
God does not ask you to give what you do not have.
He simply asks you to offer what you can.
A small act of kindness in the hands of God can become a powerful ministry.
And often, while you are refreshing someone else, the Lord is quietly refreshing you.
Today’s Pathway Step:
Ask God to show you one person you can encourage today.
It may be through a phone call.
A text message.
A prayer.
A kind word.
Or a simple act of service.
Then make this declaration aloud:
“God can use me to bring encouragement, even in my own season of need.”
Say it again.
“God can use me to bring encouragement, even in my own season of need.”
Allow the Lord to work through you today.
Let us pray.
Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and Your provision.
Forgive me for the times I have allowed fear to close my heart.
Help me trust You enough to remain generous, even during difficult seasons.
Open my eyes to the needs of others around me.
Show me opportunities to encourage, serve, and bless those who may be struggling.
Thank You for the promise that those who refresh others will be refreshed themselves.
Fill my heart with Your love and let that love flow through me today.
Use my life for Your glory.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Thank you for joining today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.
May the Lord refresh your spirit today, strengthen your faith, and remind you that His blessings often flow through open hands and an open heart. As you encourage others, may you discover His encouragement flowing back into your own soul.
