Day 8 — Led Through the Unknown
Good morning, and welcome to today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.
Our scripture today comes from Isaiah chapter 42, verse 16.
“And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.”
Yesterday, we rested in the comforting truth that Jesus is already waiting in our tomorrow.
But what happens when tomorrow arrives and the path ahead still seems hidden in the fog?
What do you do when God asks you to move forward, yet you cannot clearly see where your next step will land?
Most of us know what that feels like.
We want answers.
We want certainty.
We want a detailed map showing exactly how everything is going to work out.
Anxiety demands a map.
Fear demands a guarantee.
But God offers something far better.
He offers His hand.
Listen carefully to the promise found in today’s scripture.
The Lord does not say that He will immediately remove every mystery from the journey.
He does not promise to show us every turn in the road before we take the first step.
Instead, He says, “I will lead the blind by a way that they knew not.”
What a beautiful picture of grace.
The blind traveler does not succeed because he can see the path.
He succeeds because he trusts the One who is leading him.
Perhaps today you feel uncertain about your finances.
Perhaps you are concerned about your health.
Perhaps you are carrying questions about your family, your future, or a situation that seems completely beyond your control.
If so, take comfort in this truth.
You do not need to know the path if you know the Guide.
God specializes in leading His children through places they have never traveled before.
He knows every turn.
He sees beyond every obstacle.
And He is never confused by the circumstances that leave us overwhelmed.
Notice another promise in this passage.
God says He will make darkness light before them.
The darkness may seem overwhelming today, but it will not remain that way forever.
The Lord is able to bring clarity where there has been confusion.
He is able to bring direction where there has been uncertainty.
He is able to straighten what appears crooked and bring order where life feels chaotic.
And then He closes with a promise that every weary heart needs to hear.
“I will not forsake them.”
Not for a moment.
Not for a day.
Not during the difficult seasons.
And not during the uncertain ones.
The God who leads you is also the God who stays with you.
You never walk alone.
Today’s Pathway Step:
You do not need to solve the next five years today.
You do not even need to solve the next five months.
Take a moment to pause.
Close your eyes.
Take a slow, deep breath.
Then pray this simple prayer:
“Lord, give me enough light for the next step, and help me trust You with the rest.”
Repeat it as often as necessary throughout the day.
“Lord, give me enough light for the next step, and help me trust You with the rest.”
Let us pray.
Father, there are moments when the path ahead feels hidden and uncertain.
My mind wants answers.
My heart wants guarantees.
And my fears want to take control.
But today I choose to trust You.
Take my hand and lead me through the places I cannot see.
Give me confidence in Your wisdom when I do not understand the journey.
Thank You for Your promise to make darkness light before me and to straighten the crooked places along the way.
Most of all, thank You for Your promise that You will never forsake me.
I place my future in Your hands and trust You to lead me safely forward.
In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
Thank you for joining today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.
May the Lord guide your steps today, calm every anxious thought, and remind you that you do not need to know every detail of the journey when you are walking hand in hand with the One who knows the way.
