DAY 18: Thursday, June 18 — Finding Rest in the Green Pastures June 18, 2026

Day 18 — Beside the Still Waters

Good morning, and welcome to today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.

Our scripture today comes from Psalm chapter 23, verse 2.

“He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.”

Take a moment and picture that scene.

Green pastures.

Still waters.

A place of safety.

A place of peace.

A place of rest.

For many people, that picture feels very different from the reality they are living today.

Anxiety is a demanding master.

It constantly tells us that we must keep striving.

Keep worrying.

Keep planning.

Keep trying to solve every problem on our own.

It convinces us that if we stop for even a moment, everything will somehow fall apart.

Over time, that kind of pressure can leave the soul exhausted.

The mind becomes weary.

The heart becomes burdened.

And life begins to feel like a dry and dusty desert with no place to sit down and rest.

Perhaps you know that feeling.

Perhaps you have been carrying a heavy cross for a long time.

Perhaps you have been fighting battles that no one else can see.

Perhaps you are simply tired.

If that describes you today, listen carefully to the words of the Shepherd.

“He maketh me to lie down.”

What a remarkable statement.

The Shepherd knows when His sheep are exhausted.

He knows when they have reached the limits of their strength.

He knows when they need more than another lecture, another task, or another burden.

They need rest.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is stop running.

Sometimes faith looks less like striving and more like surrender.

God understands your limitations.

He knows your frame.

He knows when your strength is fading.

And He lovingly leads you toward places where your soul can be refreshed.

The green pastures are not places of guilt.

They are places of restoration.

The still waters are not places of pressure.

They are places of peace.

The Shepherd is not leading you there to condemn you.

He is leading you there to renew you.

Today, God invites you to step away from the turbulent currents of worry and sit quietly in His presence.

He invites you to lay down burdens you were never meant to carry alone.

He invites you to rest in the confidence that He is watching over your life.

The Shepherd is still guiding.

The Shepherd is still providing.

And the Shepherd is still caring for you.

Take a deep breath.

Slow your pace.

And allow your soul to rest beside the still waters of His grace.

Today’s Pathway Step:

Set aside a portion of your day to step away from distractions.

Turn away from your worries.

Set aside your list of problems.

Put down your screens for a little while.

Spend that time simply reflecting on the goodness, faithfulness, and care of the Shepherd who watches over your life.

Let us pray.

Good Shepherd, I confess that my soul has become weary from trying to carry the weight of this season on my own.

Today I accept Your invitation to rest.

Lead me beside the still waters.

Quiet the racing thoughts within my mind.

Calm the fears that try to steal my peace.

Help me trust that You are taking care of the things I cannot control.

Thank You for Your protection.

Thank You for Your provision.

And thank You for Your faithful presence in my life.

Today I choose to rest safely in Your hands.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Thank you for joining today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.

May the Lord refresh your spirit, quiet your heart, and lead you beside His still waters throughout this day.
