Day 17 — The God Who Draws Near

Good morning, and welcome to today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.

Our scripture today comes from Psalm chapter 34, verse 18.

“The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”

Take a moment and listen to that promise again.

“The LORD is nigh.”

The Lord is near.

Not distant.

Not absent.

Not unaware.

Near.

The world often teaches us to hide our struggles.

It tells us to keep smiling, even when our hearts are hurting.

It tells us to appear strong, even when we feel weak.

It tells us to hide the cracks and pretend that everything is fine.

Many people carry that same thinking into their relationship with God.

They wonder if they need to have all the answers before they pray.

They wonder if they need stronger faith before approaching Him.

They worry that God might be disappointed by their tears, their exhaustion, or their questions.

But Scripture reveals something entirely different about the heart of our Father.

God does not move away from brokenness.

He moves toward it.

When a heart is hurting, the Lord draws near.

When tears begin to fall, the Lord draws near.

When strength is gone and words are difficult to find, the Lord draws near.

He is not waiting for you to put all the pieces back together before He enters the room.

He is already there.

The Bible says that He is nigh unto the brokenhearted.

That means He comes close.

Very close.

Close enough to hear every prayer.

Close enough to see every tear.

Close enough to understand every burden that no one else can see.

Your brokenness is not a barrier to His presence.

In many ways, it becomes the place where His comfort is felt most deeply.

Sometimes we think we need impressive words when we pray.

Sometimes we think we need to sound strong and confident before God will listen.

But often the most powerful prayer is simply an honest one.

The Father is not looking for perfect words.

He is looking for an open heart.

He already knows where you hurt.

He already knows what keeps you awake at night.

He already knows the burdens you carry.

And He invites you to bring them to Him exactly as they are.

You do not have to pretend.

You do not have to perform.

You do not have to be strong today.

You simply have to be His.

And when you place your broken pieces into His hands, He begins His gentle work of healing and restoration.

One prayer at a time.

One day at a time.

One step at a time.

Today’s Pathway Step:

Spend a few quiet moments alone with God today.

Speak honestly.

Tell Him where you feel tired.

Tell Him where you feel weak.

Tell Him where you feel broken.

Release the pressure of trying to pray a perfect prayer.

Simply talk to your Heavenly Father, knowing that He is already near.

Let us pray.

Father, thank You for being the God who draws near to hurting hearts.

Thank You that I do not have to hide my struggles from You.

Today I bring every broken piece of my heart into Your presence.

I bring my fears.

I bring my disappointments.

I bring my questions.

And I bring my weariness.

Thank You for loving me completely, even when I feel weak.

Wrap Your comforting arms around my spirit today.

Heal the wounds that others cannot see.

Fill my heart with Your peace.

And remind me that I am never alone because You are always near.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Thank you for joining today’s Pathway of Faith devotional.

May the Lord draw near to you today, strengthen your heart, and surround you with the comfort of His presence wherever you go.
