Abide in My Love

“As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.

Devotional

Sometimes we are so busy trying to move forward that we forget how important it is to remain.

Jesus said, “Continue ye in my love.”

Other translations may use the word abide, but the invitation is the same: stay close to Christ. Make your home in His love. Do not treat His love as something you visit only when life becomes difficult.

Live there.

Over the past several days, we have seen that God’s love begins with Him. He loved us first. He proved His love through Christ. His love gives new life, and by His mercy and grace He saves us.

Now Jesus invites us to live each day in the reality of that love.

That does not mean we will never have difficult days. It does not mean we will always feel strong, joyful, or certain about what comes next. There will be moments when circumstances shake us and days when our own hearts seem unsettled.

But the love of Christ remains.

I have learned that there are times when I simply have to stop.

Stop trying to solve everything.

Stop worrying about what tomorrow may bring.

Stop carrying things God never asked me to carry.

And in that quiet moment, remember that I am loved by Christ.

Perhaps you need that reminder today too.

Jesus does not merely tell us to remain in His love. He shows us what living there begins to look like. His love changes the way we obey Him, the way we experience joy, and the way we love one another.

“That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”

That is a high calling.

We are not asked to love others according to how they treat us. We are called to love them according to the love we have received from Christ.

When we remain close to Him, His love begins to shape our own.

Reflection

Where have you been looking for security, peace, or acceptance apart from the love of Christ?

Are you simply visiting His love when you need comfort, or are you learning to live each day in the assurance that you belong to Him?

Pathway Step

Today, intentionally make room to remain with Christ.

Set aside a few quiet minutes without distractions. Put down the phone, turn off the noise, and sit with the words of Jesus:

“As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.”

Then let that time with Christ affect one relationship in your life.

Choose one person today and intentionally love them as Christ has loved you. Give your time when it would be easier to remain busy. Listen when you would rather speak. Show patience when you feel impatient. Offer grace when you could demand your own way.

Do not simply talk about the love of Christ today.

Abide in it—and then live it.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the love You have shown me through Jesus Christ. Help me to remain close to Him and to live each day with the assurance that I am loved. When life becomes noisy and my heart becomes distracted, draw me back to Your presence.

Teach me to love others as Christ has loved me. Let His love shape my words, my choices, and the way I treat those You place in my path today.

Tomorrow we will discover that there is nothing in this world—and nothing beyond it—that can separate those who belong to Christ from His love.

You do not have to chase after the love of Christ.

You are invited to remain in it.

Whatever this day brings, stay close to Him. Rest in His presence. Listen to His voice. Walk in His ways.

And as you move through this day, carry His love with you.
